Bamboo Alcohol Pump

March 18, 2020 when the entire island of Luzon was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine due to the rapid infection of Novel Corona Virus Disease, later named as Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). All of the government agencies, non-government entities and the entire populace were frantic to protect their people and themselves. The Department of Health (DOH) issued guidelines on minimum health standards, which includes handwashing or use of hand sanitizer or alcohol when hand washing is not possible.

The Local Government Unit of Bula through its Bamboo Common Service Facility (CSF) designed and produced prototype of foot-controlled alcohol dispenser. This simple machine intends to reduce transmission of the virus through non-hand contact mechanism and providing sustainable raw material, which is bamboo.

The prototype was critiqued by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Camarines Sur Director, Dir. Patrocinio Felizmenio. After adjusting the prototype according to the recommendations of DOST, reproduction was conducted. All LGU offices were provided with the foot-controlled alcohol pump.
